{"id":423,"date":"2010-01-26T11:37:32","date_gmt":"2010-01-26T18:37:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.knuetter.com\/christian\/?p=423"},"modified":"2010-01-26T14:15:45","modified_gmt":"2010-01-26T21:15:45","slug":"photos-from-south-america","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.knuetter.com\/christian\/2010\/01\/26\/photos-from-south-america\/","title":{"rendered":"Photos from South America"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week I&#8217;m finally getting some photos online from my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.picsfromtrips.com\/snapshots\/2009-photos\/south-america\/\">South America trip<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.picsfromtrips.com\/snapshots\/2009-photos\/south-america\/buenos-aires\/\">Buenos Aires<\/a> was my first destination and it&#8217;s an awesome city.\u00a0 I really liked the vibe of the city: friendly people, good food, abundant cafes, good parks, different neighborhoods with unique feels.\u00a0 It&#8217;s everything you&#8217;d want in a city.<\/p>\n<p>I spent a few days in Buenos Aires before taking off for Patagonia.\u00a0 I stayed in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solarsoler.com.ar\/\" target=\"_blank\">Solar Soler hotel<\/a> in the Palermo neighborhood.\u00a0 It was a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.picsfromtrips.com\/snapshots\/2009-photos\/south-america\/buenos-aires\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 2px solid black; margin: 4px;\" title=\"Casa de la Cultura, Buenos Aires\" src=\"http:\/\/www.picsfromtrips.com\/snapshots\/d\/34915-5\/2009d39c148.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"346\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a>really nice little hotel that I booked online before the trip (I always like to have my first night&#8217;s hotel booked before a trip).\u00a0 After returning from Patagonia I again stayed with the Solar Soler folks but this time in their apartment which was cheaper and actually a little closer to a subway station.<\/p>\n<p>The Palermo neighborhood reminded me a bit of the Mission\/SOMA districts here in San Francisco in that it&#8217;s a pretty mixed neighborhood with expensive shops and restaurants and new development alongside older residences and light industry.\u00a0 I liked having it as a base from which to explore the city (though this district puts you at one end of all of the areas you&#8217;d want to visit and not in the middle).<\/p>\n<p>The Subway system was really convenient for me and a great way to get around town.\u00a0 I&#8217;d just pick a destination and take the subway there (or close to there) and then walk from then on.\u00a0 That&#8217;s essentially how I spent my days.<\/p>\n<p>Nights were pretty mellow since I was on my own but I definitely enjoyed the food and atmosphere of the late-eating crowds (restaurants are easily still crowded at 1am on any day of the week).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve sorted through and chosen just a few of the photos that remind me of the city and that I hope best convey what I saw while I was there.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve split out a subset of photos that I&#8217;ll post next, which are from the San Telmo neighborhood.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week I&#8217;m finally getting some photos online from my South America trip.
